If you are looking for a better quality of life, then you will find it in Newtown-Sandy Hook. You can find a newer, larger home set on a goregeous two or three acre parcel for under $400,000! Although our town spreads over 60 square miles, the population is only 25,000. This gives Newtown a small town feel. Main Street features our famous flagpole in the center of route 25. Historic homes line the street. You don't want to miss Halloween on Main Street! Many corporate families have relocated to Newtown in the past 20 years. The parks are filled will children playing soccer or lacrosse or baseball. There are a good many horse properties and stables scattered throughout the town. In fact, the Governor's Horse Guard is located at Fairfield Hills. We have a hometown newspaper, The Newtown Bee. You can read it online at www.newtownbee.com. As far as commuting goes, I-84 runs across the north side of town going into NY or Waterbury. Route 34 runs directly into New Haven on the east side of town. Route 25 runs north and south down to Bridgeport and Metro North. Local shopping in town includes three grocery stores. Usually it is a 10 minute ride to the store but you don't mind since there isn't much trafffic. We have two town parks. Treadwell on the east side of town, called Sandy Hook. There are brand new tennis courts, a town swimming pool, basketball courts and ball fields. It is a popular place for sledding in the winter! On the other side of town is Dickenson Park featruing a new skate park, playscape and tennis courts. Most recently, a number of new restaurants have opened in town creating a nice ambience. For entertainment, there is the Edmund Town Hall movie theater on Main Street where you can see $2 movies! In the Fairfield Hills compound, there is a state of the art Newtown Youth Academy sports complex with an indoor track. Basically it is a gym for all ages. We have lots of clubs in town including a wonderful Newcomer's Club, the Lion's Club, Rotary, Garden Club and more. Also located on the Fairfield Hills compound is a state of the art animal shelter...it's like a hotel for dogs & cats! If you are into fishing or boating, we have Eichler's Cove, Lake Zoar and Lake Lillinonah. Then there's our schools! This is the reason most families move to town. We have a great school system. No matter which neighborhood you live in, you can be sure there is no compromise! So, come one, come all... it's Nicer in Newtown!
